Chulalonakorn University, Thailand
Abstract
History of the rainwater harvesting technique and the use of ponds as rainwater
storage in Thailand is traced back to about 2000 years ago. Current practices
in using ponds for storing rainwater for domestic use and for animal consumption
during the dry period in rural Thailand are discussed. Particular attentions are
given to the design and construction of 15-25 Cu.m ponds lined with PVC for household
use. Advantages and disadvantages of PVC lined ponds along with cost comparison
with traditional storages are also discussed. Brief description of method of dissemination
of water technology to rural peoples are given.
